Infant mortality rates in Afghanistan ,declined from an estimated 165 per 1,000 live births in 2001 to about 135 per 1,000 in 2006, according preliminary findings of Johns Hopkins University household survey
This means that 40,000 fewer infants are dying each year compared to during Taleban rule.
An overall improvement of 25 per cent is indicated from 2004.
